As the Co-Founder and CTO of Bluestem Biosciences, Tyler Autera has a wide range of experience that has led him to this position. With a BS from San Diego State University in Molecular Biology, he started his career in biotechnology and life sciences across various commercial roles. He is committed to growing as a leader in the bioengineering industry and is ready to start his new venture at Bluestem Biosciences. With his ability to build strong teams and innovate new processes, he knows what it takes to create a successful business from the ground up.
Tyler is a multi-disciplinary entrepreneur with leadership experience in science, technology, operations and sales. He most recently served as Senior Vice President of Science and Technology at Green Plains. Prior to this position, he co-founded QC Labs in 2015, where he was the President and COO of the company until December 2020. He gained the valuable experience he wanted when starting QC Labs and eventually decided to pursue other opportunities. His wide variety of experience has led him down a new yet familiar path in biotechnology and molecular biology, where he hopes to continue innovating in the field.
Tyler’s experience also includes a position as Regional Director of Sales for Research Pharmaceuticals, and as an Associate Account Manager at Life Technologies. This is where he advanced his skills in sales, sales enablement and management. Moreover, he learned the importance of bridging the commercial and scientific gap to advance innovation.d.His ability to bring the technical and commercial together will further compliment his passion for the synthetic biology industry. . He is committed to any project he starts, and he understands the importance of solid leadership. With the leadership skills he has acquired through his years at QC Labs , he is now ready to pursue his passion in synthetic biology.
His career is now focused on synthetic and digital biology to facilitate the discovery of biomanufacturing. Bluestem Biosciences has been founded to focus on the sustainable production of chemicals and materials. Tyler believes that Bluestem’s mission is essential to the bioeconomy and the renewable production ality of chemicals and materials. Without sustainable production, carbon and climate change will continue to be a pervasive threat to the planet. . Part of his mission is to discover carbon-advantaged ways to produce materials or chemicals at scale to make a meaningful impact on the US agriculture and the bioeconomy..
One of his major career accomplishments was the founding of QC Labs, during which time he filed for technology and automation related patents s. On August 24, 2021, his patent was accepted for specific lab sampling protocols that Tyler, among others, invented. He believes that his experience at QC Labs is an excellent stepping stone, and hopes to bring that experience and learnings into his new venture.. He was successful at launching HTP HopLatent testing while at QC Labs, a disruptive qPCR based assay that vastly improved upon the competitor testing services . Tyler was at the company for 5 years, and has now decided to move on to bigger projects that go beyond testing. His desire to innovate within the field of genetic editing and synthetic biology have made starting a new company the next logical step in his career. Tyler is driven to succeed, and his background in software development, molecular biology, and analytical chemistry knowledge, further enable him to be a leader in the synthetic biology industry.
